Dork Diaries #1: Positive Points and Constructive Criticism

Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life

I have to agree about something with Nikki: why is MacKenzie so popular with the whole school when she treats anyone not from various CCP (the abbreviation Nikki came up with for popular kids - Cool, Cute, and Popular) cliques like dirt? She's probably only actually popular with the CCPs and the rest of the school actually hates her. Or the rest of the school is oblivious to her prissy manner. Weeelll, either THAT, or the bigger part of the school is made of CCPs and the rest are dorks, nerds, etc. But that seems really unlikely.

And it's not like they should be afraid she'll put them down, because she has really awful insults and comebacks. Kind of stupid ones. Personally, I think Nikki can have sharper comebacks than MacKenzie does! Nikki has a LOT to say and an imagination that could go overboard sometimes. Nikki's also:
1. Dramatic
2. Convinced that because she has no designer clothes she's a dork (but I think good comebacks, good looks and kindness could say otherwise, personally. It seems like the only reason MacKenzie's so popular is because she has a designer wardrobe which I think is a waste of money. I'd rather spend it getting secret passageways built into my house.)
3. Inseperable with the habit of saying "OMG." Does she say the actual letters, though? I wouldn't be able to make a habit of that. I wonder where she got it?
4. Very artistic (lots of details in the drawings)
5. Judging from how long a diary entry can be, she has a very good memory. I wish my entries could be that long.

I think the first book would be the best one, because it really expresses Nikki's imagination, her extended thoughts and not just recounting conversations and saying whether somebody giggled something or said something shakily, the kind of stuff that's in books. I love her example of a blog, the drawing of imagined "Fashion Police" and the picture of her dream near the end of the book where a spider camera, Chloe/Zoey witches on Nikki's diary pen chased her. Those were the BEST! AND it raves about wanting an iPhone. It really shows her personality, whereas in the other books the diary entries begin to escalate into suspiciously detailed recounts and focusing way too much on a competition or event that happens on the end of the month (Ex: talent show, art show, Halloween dance, skate-a-thon). Which is why I'm looking forward to reading the fifth book: the journalism thing is supposed to be spread throughout the month, right? But it should continue for all next books, right? Or she just had to quit on the end of the month... and Valentine's Day is in the MIDDLE of the month - so the Sweetheart Dance should be too, right?

How come Macapaca always gets to the good stuff first?! It's infuriating! She already has the fifth book AND the sixth book, even though Tales from a Not-So-Happy Heartbreaker is supposed to be released in June 2013!!!!
